Brant Richards at home

About

Welcome. I'm Brant.

I seek to integrate innovative technology, human wisdom, and the art of living.

For three decades I have worked at the seam between the machine code of reality and the human search for meaning — studying how minds and machines think together, building grid-scale energy systems, helping fund the climate transition, and making the art, music, and gatherings that turn strangers into community.

I have never been able to stay in one lane.

The lanes are artificial.

Where I am now

Mexico City is home base. From here I advise boards and leadership teams navigating the exponential shift; speak about the wisdom this moment asks of us; build sovereign technology alongside WillMagene, the AI partner I have trained; and host gatherings designed for genuine connection.

Around it is the life that keeps me whole: writing in the morning, cooking for friends, tending plants, singing, and sometimes sitting in silence. After three decades of moving between worlds, I am finally living in all of them at once.

The path here
01

A question at Stanford

I arrived in 1993 to study physics and found Symbolic Systems instead: computer science, philosophy, psychology, and linguistics braided around one question — what happens in the space between human minds and machines? That question has driven everything since.

Leading Talisman taught me something just as durable: harmony happens when each voice raises itself and opens to the others at the same time. The right people in the right room can make something far larger than themselves.

02

Many worlds at once

In global companies I learned reach, strategy, and how ideas move across cultures. In Silicon Valley I designed digital products when human-computer interaction was still new territory. Alongside that work I built a contemporary art gallery, an independent publishing collective, and community-centered real estate. The boardroom and the studio kept making each other richer.

03

What changed everything

At twenty-seven, during my first ten-day Vipassana retreat, a severe asthma attack arrived in the night. I stayed, breathed into it, and came through without medicine. The mind-body connection stopped being metaphor and became lived reality. The wall between the rational and the spiritual fell away.

04

Building what mattered

After an MBA at IMD, I moved to Berlin to co-found Younicos. We built some of Europe’s first grid-scale batteries and the world’s first 100% renewable microgrid — steel and software proving a grid could run on sun and wind. At night I performed with the Berlinquents and filled my apartment with salons. The engineer and the host were the same person.

05

The turn

Back in the United States, I led Third Derivative at RMI, a climate accelerator that mobilized more than half a billion dollars for gigaton-scale technology. When that chapter ended painfully, it surfaced the question I had been circling for years: what would I build if I answered only to my own values?

06

Building the answer

The question that first pulled me in at Stanford had become buildable. I could shape a life where technology serves wisdom, art, and connection — carrying more of the weight so people are freer for what matters. So I gather. I write. I advise. I speak. I build. I learn, and share, my way toward a more abundant and connected life.

Soul sparks

The work is only part of me. These keep the fire going.

  1. 01

Curating gatherings that turn strangers into friends

  2. 02

Cooking, and feeding the people I love

  3. 03

Growing things — plants as teachers, companions, and patients

  4. 04

Singing and playing guitar — still chasing harmony

  5. 05

    Sitting in silence

  6. 06

The old wisdom traditions, East and West

  7. 07

Travel as deep encounter, not consumption

If you see something of yourself in this, you are probably someone I would like to know.
